Meet Dr. Alan Cheng

Anesthesiologist in Edmonton Alberta

Dr. Alan Cheng is a certified medical anesthesiologist with nearly two decades of clinical experience in Edmonton. Before turning to medicine, Dr. Cheng earned an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy in 1996 — a foundation that still shapes a careful, detail-oriented approach to patient safety and medication management today. Dr. Cheng went on to complete medical school at Queen’s University in 2003, followed by residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Alberta in 2008.

Since 2008, Dr. Cheng has practiced as an anesthesiologist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. From 2020 to 2023, he was the Chief of the hospital’s Anesthesia Department. Dr. Cheng is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) and licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Outside of work, Alan enjoys staying active through fitness and sports, and traveling with his family.
