Meet Dr. Don Mercereau

Dr. Don Mercereau is a specialist in anaesthesiology who has practiced anaesthesia in Edmonton, Alberta since 1989. Don obtained his B.Sc. (Med) at the University of Alberta in 1971 and received his M.D. from the Faculty of Medicine in 1973. Following graduation, he completed a rotating internship at the Ottawa Civic Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario in 1974.
Don worked full time as an emergency physician at the Edmonton General Hospital for a period of eight years, the last three of which he served as the Emergency Department Chief of Service. He was heavily involved in committee work and in teaching students, interns and residents. Following eighteen months of extensive, worldwide travel, Don entered a residency in anaesthesia at the University of Alberta. Don achieved his fellowship in Anaesthesia from the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in 1989.
Since obtaining specialist qualifications, Don has practiced anaesthesia full time in Edmonton. He was a full-time member of the Department of Anaesthesia at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton until 1997 when he joined the Kingsway Anaesthesia Group. In addition to his practice at Kingsway Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Don maintains a part-time position at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and at a private plastic surgical suite.
Don has served on various hospital committees and has chaired the Morbidity and Mortality Committee as well as the Resident Education Committee. For a number of years, Don was resident Program Director (Anaesthesia) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. He has been an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Oral Health Sciences since 1994. Don is married to his lovely wife Kathy and they have two sons.
